History

The paper was founded in 1916, but its predecessor The Palm Beach County was established on Narcissus Avenue as a weekly newspaper in 1909 by the Texas printer Donald H. Conkling. The same year it became a semi-weekly newspaper. At that time West Palm Beach had been chartered for a year and had a population of 5577.
