The Pass is a song by the band Rush from their 1989 album Presto. The song deals with suicide and is a plea for those on the edge to stay alive. The song is about a teen "rebel" who becomes depressed. The teen's friend tries to help, but the teen "slams the door" and does not respond. Eventually, the depressed teen commits suicide, disturbing the befriender ("Christ, what have you done?"). While it is not as well known as classics such as Tom Sawyer or The Spirit of Radio, it is a fan favorite, perhaps because of it's ability to resonate with so many people that have suffered from depression. It is also a favorite of the band; in the Boys in Brazil documentary from Rush in Rio, Neil Peart expresses his praise for the song. He claims that he always gets emotional while playing the song, "not only for what it expresses explicitly lyrically, but because it is one of our better crafted ones." Moreover, Geddy Lee clearly states that "it's one of our very favorites" just prior to playing the song on the DVD. Tom Sawyer is a 1981 song by the Canadian Progressive Rock band Rush. ...
