Songs

"Judy is a Punk" is one of their more famous songs[citation needed],is said to be written about two real life, and overzealous fans named Jackie and Judy. In an interview on the DVD documentary End of the Century, one interviewee claims that the song was "prophetic," due to Jacky and Judy's later death in an airplane crash, corresponding to the lyrics of the song,"Perhaps they'll die, oh yeah." The song features an intro that is simply one power chord played at extreme speed. The song was featured on the soundtrack of the 2001 film The Royal Tenenbaums, and is followed up on the 1979 album End of the Century with the song "The Return of Jackie and Judy". In music, a power chord is, in the broadest sense, a chord that remains euphonious when distorted by amplification. ... "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" is one of their more popular and enduring songs[citation needed], and is highly representative of the bands' early musical vocabulary[citation needed]. "53rd & 3rd" was written by Dee Dee Ramone. It refers to a famous spot for male prostitution in New York where it is speculated that he himself had been a "hustler"—and used the money earned there to pay for his heroin habit which he immortalized in the song "Chinese Rock", and which ultimately killed him (he died from an overdose in 2002). In the movie End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones, Dee Dee is ambiguous on whether he actually hustled on that corner, although all other members of the band claim or at least imply that he did. The protagonist of the song complains that he is the prostitute never chosen, and when he finally is, he has to kill his customer to prove that he is not homosexual. Dee Dee Ramone, born Douglas Glenn Colvin (September 18, 1952 - June 5, 2002) was a founding member of The Ramones, a heavily influential punk band in which he wrote or co-wrote most of the songs, including 53rd & 3rd, Commando, and Poison Heart.
