Encyclopedia > The Royal Scots Fusiliers

The Royal Scots Fusiliers is a Regiment of the British Army. Formerly the 21st Regiment, later 21st Royal North British Fusiliers. Raised in Scotland as the Earl of Mar's Regiment in 1673. Continuously in existence until 1959 when it was merged with the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) to form the Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment). The regular 1st battalions of the two Regiments combining at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh to form the 1st battalion of the new regiment (1 RHF). A history of the Regiment 1673-1920 was written by the distinguished author John Buchan.
