The Tractors was formed in 1988[1], with the original lineup comprising Ron Getman (bass guitar, slide guitar), Jamie Oldaker (drums), Walt Richmond (vocals, keyboards), Steve Ripley (guitar, lead vocals), and Casey van Beek (vocals).[2] All five members had previously been backing musicians for other notable artists, including Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, and Leonard Cohen.[1] Steve Ripley out in woods. ... By 1990, the group was signed to Arista Records, a newly-formed record label based in Nashville, Tennessee.[1] In 1994, the group released its self-titled debut album. The album, which produced the single "Baby Likes to Rock It", soon became the fastest-selling debut album from a country group to go platinum; it also became the top-selling country music album of 1994.[3][4] That album was soon followed by a Christmas album called Have Yourself a Tractors Christmas, which was also successful.[2] Arista Records is an American record label that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony BMG, and operates under the RCA Records Group // After being fired from CBS Records, Columbia Pictures hired Clive Davis to be a consultant for the company’s record and music operations. ... The group's true follow-up, Farmers in a Changing World, was released in 1998; however, that album proved to be unsuccessful, in part due to country music's shift towards country pop.[5] The band's members, except for Ripley, soon departed for other projects, although they and Ripley remained close friends, and made cameo appearances on subsequent albums.[6] Ripley, along with several other musicians, released the next Tractors album, Fast Girl, on Audium Records in 1998. After Fast Girl, the Tractors left Audium as well, and soon formed its own label, Boy Rocking Records. Tractor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (2462 words)
A tractor (from Latin trahere "to pull"; a conflicting history of the name is that steam tractors were originally referred to as traction engines, eventually becoming a contraction of 'traction' and 'motor') is a device intended for drawing, towing or pulling something which cannot propel itself and, often, powering it too.
The classic farm tractor is a simple open vehicle with two very large driving wheels on an axle below and slightly behind a single seat (the seat and steering wheel consequently are in the center) and the engine in front of the driver with two steerable wheels below the engine compartment.
Older tractors usually require that the operator depress the clutch in order to shift between gears (a limitation of straight-cut gears in the gearbox), but many modern tractors have eliminated this requirement with the introduction of technologies such as power shifting in the 1960's and more modern continuously variable transmissions.
Tractor beam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (384 words)
A tractor beam is a hypothetical device with the ability to attract one object to another from a distance.
Tractor beams are most commonly used on spaceships and space stations.
Tractor beams and pressor beams can be used together as a weapon: by attracting one side of an enemy spaceship while repelling the other, one can create severely damaging shear effects in its hull.
