Encyclopedia > Thefilmworks

thefilmworks was the name of a chain of four cinemas owned and operated by United Cinemas International (UCI) in the United Kingdom. Following the takeover of the European division of UCI (along with Odeon Cinemas) by Terra Firma Capital Partners in late 2004 the chain has gradually been disbanded. Due to a ruling by the Office of Fair Trading six UCI (including thefilmworks High Wycombe) and five Odeon cinemas were sold by Terra Firma to Ward Anderson. The three remaining thefilmworks cinemas (Manchester, Greenwich and Maidenhead) will be converted to the Odeon brand, the Manchester cinema had been converted by November 2005 , the Greenwich cinema in December 2005 and Maidenhead in 2006.
