"Thnks fr th Mmrs" (pronounced 'thanks for the memories') is the third 2007 single released by the Chicago band Fall Out Boy. It is featured on their 2007 release Infinity on High. The song, according to bassist Pete Wentz in an interview with Kerrang!, refers to a romantic relationship in which the initial sentiments have perished, but both lovers continue to "sleep with each other" to appease their physical and mental desires. The title, "Thnks fr th Mmrs" is the words 'thanks for the memories' with vowels removed, much like it would be written as part of a text message. Another reason for the song title's lack of vowels comes as joking nod at Fall Out Boy's record company, who have asked them to shorten their often verbose song titles.[1] The song features Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds on mandolin and The Movement Orchestra Strings. The song was featured as the theme song on an episode of VH1's Best Week Ever. The chorus of the song contains the line, "He tastes like you, only sweeter", a line from the 2004 film Closer. The band finished shooting the video for the single on February 27, as reported by their blog. Wentz said, "I think this one is going to completely blow "Arms Race" out of the water. The concept is insane. I'll leave it at that."[1] Although the announced release date for the video was originally March 20, it was reported on the Fall Out Boy website that the video would premiere around the world on the band's website on March 23. The video centers around the band recording a video for "Thnks fr th Mmrs" with chimpanzees directing and producing the video. The chimpanzees do not seem to enjoy working with the band. There are several takes and temper tantrums, including the director chimpanzee saying that the band is "wack" and that he should've gotten Panic! at the Disco (another Fueled by Ramen artist, and friends of FOB). The video ends with Wentz destroying the set, smashing a large B from an 'FOB' sign, leaving behind 'FO', which in internet terminology means "Fuck off". [2] Kim Kardashian plays Wentz's love interest in the video, later becoming more affectionate towards the directing monkey which causes Wentz's final tantrum. She was also used in the film clip to demonstrate the lyrics "collecting page six lovers". Two points in the song which are not clear deal with the oft-repeated lines "He tastes like you [only] sweeter" and "He, he tastes like you [only] sweeter." First in that versions of the lyrics as found on the Internet show the word only used even though the word is never sung in this phrase. The second item that is not made clear is whether the singer is saying that he was also having some sort of sexual involvement with a man, or whether the implication is that she is saying this and she is referring to yet another lover she has; the song never clarifies the issue. It is probably a reference that he is screwing her and (metaphorically) the other guy. This line is a reference to the play and movie Closer. The line is said as a result of a husband demanding that his wife describe how she had sex with another man. Oral sex consists of all sexual activities that involve the use of the mouth, which may include use of the tongue, teeth, and throat, to stimulate genitalia. ... The video has been criticized for having too much product placement, instigating claims that the band has "sold out". [2] [3] However, in the version of the video featured on television, some of the corporate labels are taken out, such as those of TAG Body Spray and Nokia, although the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Black Nokia 5300 XpressMusic cell phone are still featured fairly prominently. TAG Body Spray assisted Fall Out Boy in providing an iPod version and full-screen QuickTime version of the video free to visitors of the site. In the Philippines, there are 2 versions of the video. The first one is the American edited version (the version used on MTV Philippines) and the second one in which the monkey dialogues are written in Tagalog and instead of Panic! at the Disco, the dialogue says that they should have gotten Philippine band Chicosci (who would later be scheduled to open for Fall Out Boy on September 21, 2007, at the Araneta Coliseum), but the monkey texting scene is still in English.
