Thoothukudi District, also known as Tuticorin District, is a district of Tamil Nadu state in southern India. Thoothukudi (Tuticorin) is the district headquarters. It had a population of 1,572,273 as of 2001. It is 42.28% urbanised. [1]. This is one of the Ayyavazhi populated districts of Tamil Nadu. Thoothukudi District is situated in the extreme south-eastern corner of Tamil Nadu.
