See the talk page for details. (September 2007) | Thrashcore is an extremely fast subgenre of punk rock and saw its beginnings after the beginnings of hardcore punk in the early 1980s. Thrashcore is essentially faster hardcore punk. Its distinguishing features include high-tempos (often to the point of using blast beats), shouted vocals, short song length (usually about one minute) and extremely politicized lyrics. Early bands categorized as "thrash," such as many of the New York bands, considered themselves separate from the other, more traditional bands, such as Black Flag. Similar Subgenres Thrashcore is very often confused with crossover thrash and, to a lesser extent, thrash metal. The similarity in name is often the source of confusion between these genres. Further confusion is added by the fact that many of the most influential crossover bands began as influential thrashcore bands, such as Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (D.R.I.). The difference between thrashcore and the later two genres is that crossover thrash/thrash metal are hardcore punk/metal fusion genres, whereas thrashcore is a "pure" punk genre. Power Violence is often confused with thrashcore. These are two very similar subgenres of punk which both evolved out of the 1980s hardcore punk scene. Further confusion is added by the fact that several thrashcore and power violence bands overlap. In general, thrashcore is less experimental than power violence. More specifically, power violence tends to use harsher, grindcore-influenced vocals, and thrashcore lacks the slow breakdowns power violence is known for. Power violence is a cross breeding of the musical genres hardcore punk and grindcore. ...
