The songwriting was made by soul writer Jerry Ragovoy (the same one who wrote Piece of My Heart for Janis Joplin}, although he used the pseudonym of Norman Meade. Winding's version didn't went well in the charts, unlike the other two covers. Irma released the song as the B-side of her 1964's single "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)". Both songs did well in the charts, although they didn't became hits. Her version was more turned to Gospel unlike Winding's version which was more jazz. Gospel music may refer either to the religious music that first came out of African-American churches in the 1930s or, more loosely, to both black gospel music and to the religious music composed and sung by white southern Christian artists. ...


A few months later, The Rolling Stones released their version as a single in both USA and UK, becaming an instant hit and reaching the top-10. The US version, however, had a more Gospel-orientation than the UK version, mainly by the use of an organ (replaced by a guitar in the UK version).
