Timperley is a suburban area with most of the houses dating from the 1930s and later with only a few older ones. Up to the early 19th century Timperley was one of the several 'townships' in the large parish of Bowdon. The affairs of the township were run by local farmers who took it in turn to be the officers responsible for the care of the poor, upkeep of the roads and keeping the peace.
