Saitama has been a regional transportation hub for both passengers and cargo.
The name "Saitama" originally comes from the Sakitama (埼玉郡) district of what is now the city of Gyoda in the northern part of what is now known as Saitama Prefecture.
The prefectural name "Saitama" (埼玉県) was changed from kanji into hiragana, thus SaitamaCity (ã•ã„ãŸã¾å¸‚) was born.
Tokorozawa borders the Tokyo communities of Kiyose City, Higashi-Murayama City, Higashi-Yamato City, Musashi-Murayama City, and Mizuhomachi; and the Saitama communities of IrumaCity, SayamaCity, KawagoeCity, Miyoshimachi, and NiizaCity.
Tokorozawa was established as as city on November 3, 1950.
The Tokorozawa Matsuri is a festival held each year in October and features parade floats (mikoshi), taiko drums, and samba dancers.
