The team has undergone many changes, originally existing as a one-car team known as the Holden Young Lions Team prior to 2001. The team as it is know today came about from a collaboration between Kmart and Holden before the 2001 season, resulting in the Kmart Racing Team. Kmart sponsorship ended at the conclusion of the 2004 season, resulting in the team becoming known as the HSV Dealer Team in 2005 (a callback to an earlier team known for much success with driver Peter Brock). Toll became the main sponsor of the team for the 2006 season. The Team Manager is Rob Crawford. The current drivers are Rick Kelly (who has been driving for the team since 2003) and Garth Tander. In the penultimate round of the 2006 season in Bahrain the Toll HSV Dealer Team secured the 2006 Teams title after leading it from the first round in Adelaide. During the endurance races of the 2006 season, the HSV Dealer Team and the Holden Racing Team engaged in a driver swap where Tander would race for HRT with Mark Skaife, and HRT driver Todd Kelly would pair with younger brother Rick. The teams were enabled to do so by the fact that both teams are run by Tom Walkinshaw Racing. The driver swap angered many fans of opposing teams (especially Ford teams) due to Tander and Skaife being seen as a dream team. The swap was initiated in hopes of helping both Garth and Rick's championship (who were 1/2 before the endurance races). It was successful for Rick but due to mechanical failures in the #2 Commodore of HRT in both rounds, Tanders championship domination was destroyed but claimed 4th at the end of the year.
