Tom was born in the blue-colar family of Horton's in 1910, in Salem. During his high school and college, he was a star at the baseball team. There he met his sweetheart Alice Grayson They married on March 7, 1930 in a small church in Salem. They had five children: Tommy, Addie (deceased], Mickey, Bill and Marie. They also raised their grandchildren, Hope and Jennifer after her mother died. Tom served at world war II, and retired shortly after. He then became a doctor. He built University Hospital Trauma Center, where he became chief of staff.
