The district has three high schools (East, North, South), as well as three middle schools (East, North, South). Intermediate East and West, which was recently renamed Intermediate North, (Grades 6-8) are currently the two most populous middle schools in New Jersey at 1,660 and 1,363 students respectively. Intermediate South opened in 2005 with approximately 1,300 students. Coinciding with the opening of the new middle school, 6th grade classes were shifted from the elementary schools to middle schools in order to allieviate overcrowding in the districts elementary schools. Toms River Regional also has 12 elementary schools.
