Transportation
It is accessed by three routes, they are numbered 283, 340 and 396. The bypass is under construction. And prefectural roads numbered 35 and 121. It will be accessed by a new by-pass which is under construction and is an expressway, the newly built Kamaishi Expressway linking the coast. Tono has had an annual student and teacher exchange with Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences in Chattanooga TN since 1990. There are two high schools in Tono, Tono High School (Tono Koko) an academic school and Tono Ryokuho High School, a vocational school. Both schools participate in the exchange. There is also a Jr. High school sechange program involving many junior high schools in Tono and both Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts and Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences.
