Michelle Leslie was pardoned because, the judges said, she was young and had a good future ahead of her and that she had learnt from her mistake (we'll take that at face value; whatever furor she's in now in oz is a different matter)
And for the young who died under such conditions may hold the strong belief that old age represents a degradation of the spirit and an insult to the body.
