Spelling was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Candy Marer (born Carole Gene Marer^[1]) and famed TV producer Aaron Spelling. Both of Spelling's parents were Jewish,^[2] though her family celebrated both Christmas and Hanukkah while she was growing up.^[3] She attended Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California but graduated from Harvard-Westlake School. On July 3, 2004, Spelling married Charlie Shanian. They separated in December 2005 and were legally divorced on April 20, 2006. Spelling married her second husband, McDermott a month later, on May 7, 2006, in a barefoot ceremony in Fiji.
