The choir was founded in 1894 by Dr. Augustus S. Vogt and was originally an extension of the choir of Jarvis St. Baptist Church in Toronto which Dr. Vogt directed. The choir has 160 voices. They are mostly volunteers with a professional core of 20. The choir is associated with The Toronto Mendelssohn Youth Choir (about 30 singers, ages 15 – 23), and the 60-voice Toronto Mendelssohn Singers. The choir performs throughout Canada and has also toured in the United States and Europe including Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Kennedy Center and major venues in Vienna, Salzburg and Prague.
