Torterra are famous for being the final evolved form of one of the three species of Pokémon the player can choose at the start of their adventure in the Diamond and Pearl versions of the series. The purpose of Torterra in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2] Pokémon Diamond , Pocket Monsters Diamond) and Pokémon Pearl , Pocket Monsters Pearl) are a pair of role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console. ...

Biological characteristics
Torterra are possibly based on Akupara, a tortoise in Hindu mythology upon whom the Earth resides. It may also possibly be based on Iroquois creation myth, where the world is created by various animals on a turtle's back, or maybe the mythical Genbu. The fact that Torterra is based on a religious belief (in this case, the Iroquois and the Chinese) further shows that the three fully evolved starters in Sinnoh are based on religious figures. Torterra possess a giant, flat-looking shell that looks a bit like a round bonsai tree container. The rim of the shell is white and above their heads is a diamond-shaped extension of the rim. Torterra carry on their shells an enormous tree with soil nearby and three mountain peaks on its back, giving the impression that one is looking at a landscape from a distance. Their bodies are bulky and seem to be too big for their shells. Their bulk no longer allows them to withdraw into their shells as easily as they could as Turtwig, though it gives a sufficient amount of protection from foes. Their main body colors are a dull green on their backs and heads with a brown underbelly and legs. Torterra have several vertical lines running across their backs, though they have fewer lines going across their bellies. They bear two large spikes that jut out of the sides of their heads, making it look somewhat like an Ankylosaurus. Torterra's eyes are intimidating, encircled by a black ring and bearing small red pupils. Their mouth is jagged and at the end of their snout is a dark brown beak, giving them the appearance of a snapping turtle. Their thick, tree trunk-like legs are massive and powerful in order to hold up their enormous, heavy bodies. They bear three toes on each of their legs and appear as if they are actually jagged stones. In Hindu mythology, Akupara is a tortoise who carries the world on his back. ...

Their shell is the basis of their classification as the Continent Pokémon, befitting not only for their shell's appearance, but also for the size of Torterra's actual body. Despite their great size, these Pokémon are peaceful in nature and enjoy being with others of their own kind, preferring to bask in sunlight as they do not like to fight. When immobile, they look as if they are part of the ground upon which they rest, not as though they were a sleeping Pokémon. Because of this appearance, there are occasions when small Pokémon will gather and build nests on the shell of a stationary Torterra. When Torterra do move, they often move in herds in search of water. These herds give the impression of a moving forest. Torterra is the heaviest of all the final evolved starters, and the second tallest, coming in only behind Feraligatr. Feraligatr , Ordile in original Japanese language versions) are one of the fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchiseâa collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards, and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. ...
In the video games Torterra was introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl as the final evolution of Turtwig. With the Earthquake attack, it can trump Fire-type pokémon which would usually have an advantage over Grass-types. Torterra's Ground-type characteristics also mean that Electric attacks do not have an effect on it. However, Ice-type moves deal 4x damage against it. Turtwig , Naetle in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the Pokémon media franchise. ...
Torterra evolves from Grotle at level 32 and can learn the Earthquake move immediately; a reflection of its new Grass- and Ground-type combination, something its previous evolutions notably lacked. It has high Attack and HP stats in addition to the highest Defense of all twelve final starter Pokémon evolutions. However, its Special Attack is low and it's Speed stat is the lowest of all twelve final starter Pokémon evolutions, with a base 56. This is the first time a grass-type Pokemon has the highest attack of any final evolved starters excluding Blaziken and Swampert who both have higher attack power. If Torterra has a high happiness rating, a Move Tutor in Sinnoh will offer to teach it the move Frenzy Plant, an exclusive move shared with Venusaur, Meganium, and Sceptile (Though Torterra's low special attack makes Frenzy Plant, Leaf Storm, and its draining moves [Abosrb, Mega Drain, Giga Drain] somewhat useless since they are all special attacks [Oddly enough, Razor Leaf is a physical attack]). Torterra is classified as the Continent Pokémon, a classification shared with Groudon. This article does not cite any references or sources. ...
