The show shares a very similar format to the Channel 4 United Kingdom (and subsequent ABC remake) program Wife Swap. In 2004, ABC showcased their upcoming Wife Swap show including projections of its popularity. Weeks before the show's debut, FOX introduced Trading Spouses.[1] The producers of Wife Swap claimed FOX stole their concept,[2] while FOX argued that TV shows have always borrowed from one another and that FOX simply beat ABC to delivery.[citation needed] It has been suggested that Channel Four Television Corporation be merged into this article or section. ... BuddyTV - Trading Spouses: Fall Preview (291 words)
Trading Spouses is proof that FOX cares very little about the intelligence of their audience and continues to bank on shock value and watching-a-car-wreck mentality to find viewers.
Trading Spouses on FOX follows a one-week swap of a husband or wife from families of different backgrounds and documents their interaction as they learn to live with their new family.
At the end of the week, the "traded" spouse gets a $50,000 allowance where he or she decides on how the money is spent for the family.
Trading Spouses (475 words)
"Trading Spouses," in the first part of a two-part premiere Tuesday, arranged an exchange between Tammy Nakamura, the pampered wife of a cosmetic surgeon, and Mela Biggins, a working-class surgical technician.
It doesn't take long to see that the net result of the trade is a posh life for Mela and an opportunity for Tammy to deliver patronizing lectures on the dangers of a high-carb diet.
For "Trading Spouses" to be successful, it must tell stories in which the trade makes an impact on the families.
