Trakošćan (also spelled Trakostyan) is a castle located in northern Croatia (in the Varaždin county) that dates back to the 13th century (first written mention in 1334).
The ban of Croatia Ivan Drašković (1550-1613) was from Trakošćan.
It has been meticulously maintained and is currently one of the best preserved historic buildings in the country.
The TrakoscanCastle is one of the most visited sites in this region.
The Castle is well preserved and was built in the 12th of 13th Centuries, although the exact date is not known.
The TrakoscanCastle still retains its look of a fortified castle, with high walls surrounding the building but does look quite modern compared to other castles in the area due to the renovations.
