Traralgon is an industrial and agricultural town and largest town in the Latrobe Valley in Australia. The other important towns in the Latrobe valley are Moe, Morwell and Tyers. They all fall in the municipality of Latrobe City. Combined population about 70000


Industry:

  • Brown coal mining.
  • Loy Yang Power stations (Huge Brown coal burning power stations)
  • Dairy
  • Paper Mill

Before the mining this was a picturesque agricultural town. The lignin decompositon lakes at the local paper mill also cause a serious problem of smell when there is a prevailing westerly wind.


Traralgon has many social acities and facilities. Such as:

Traralgon is located east of Morwell and is the largest city in the Latrobe Valley, which is home to most of Victoria's power generation facilities.
Further south of Traralgon the Strzelecki Ranges offer a number of scenic tourist drive routes, including the Grand Ridge Road and the route to the Tarra Bulga National Park.
North of Traralgon are extensive alpine ranges which include such attractions as the ski resort of Mount Baw Baw, the Thompson Dam (which provides Melbourne with its largest supply of water), a number of state and national parks, and the historic community of Walhalla.
