Encyclopedia > Trawler (boat)

Trawler boats are a kind of powerboat and are so named because they look similar to a commercial fishing trawler. Like a commercial fishing vessel, a cruising trawler has a displacement hull and the pilothouse is raised. The engine and mechanical room is under the main cabin and can be quite large. Usually trawler boats have a single engine and lots of fuel capacity. The general design of trawlers is quite seaworthy. A modern Icelandic trawler A trawler is a fishing vessel designed for the purpose of operating a trawl, a net that is dragged along the bottom of the sea (or sometimes above the bottom at a specified depth). ... A hull is the body or frame of a ship or boat. ... A pilothouse is a small, glass-enclosed room on top of the texas from which a ship is controlled. ...

Combined with the efficiency of a displacement hull, trawlers generally can go far before needing to be refueled and can be home for between 2 to 8 persons for many days and can be a permanent home.

The size of a trawler can ranges from 30 feet to 70 feet.
