Encyclopedia > Treble reel

A dance done in Hardshoes to a reel (4/4) timing. Treble reels are more to be found in the showdancing world rather than in the competition world. Danceschools who organise competitions ("feiseanna" <fesj-ah-na>) can decide whether to have a treble reel competition or not. Usually they occur under a Special Trophy competition.

Irish dance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (1694 words)
"Reel", "slipjig", "hornpipe", and "jig" and "Set Dance" are used to define dances, but also refer to types of Irish traditional music.
Light and single jigs are in 6/8 time, and are soft shoes dances, while the treble jig is hard shoe, danced in a slow 6/8.
They are worn for the light jig, the reel, the single jig, the slipjig, and group dances with two or more people.
