Troy Tech Magnet Program

Troy High School is well-known for its magnet program created in 1986. Students are admitted into the program by an admissions test that takes place around mid-January to mid-February. People who are in the magnet program attend more advanced courses than regular students living in the attendance area, usually with a very rigorous schedule of all honor classes. More than half of the student population is in Troy Tech. Students who live as far as an hour's drive away from the school attend because of the program. During the summer before their senior year, students must go through an internship program in order to graduate. For information about a medical intern, see the article on Medical residency. ...

"Any qualified 9th grade student who has successfully completed 8th grade from any school within or outside of the Fullerton Joint Union High School District is eligible for participation in the Troy Tech Magnet Program." - Quoted from Fullerton Joint Union High School District (FJUHSD) Course Catalog. The student who participates in the Troy Tech Program is involved in a challenging curriculum requiring an additional class each semester. The student is required to complete not only District graduation requirements but advanced Troy Tech courses in selected areas as well.

As freshmen, students are enrolled to either Computer Logics & Algorithms (CLA/ICT) or Fundamentals of Programming (FOP) in first semester and the other class in second semester if they are currently taking Geometry, Algebra 2, or Trig/Pre-Calculus. Afterwards, at the end of freshman year, students decide which Troy Tech route to pursue. • Pre-Internship or Business

In order for a Troy Tech student to be eligible to graduate with the Full IB Diploma, the student, in his or her junior must take:

  • AP Computer Science AB- IB
  • IB Business Management

Finally, as a last and major part of the Troy Tech Program, students must complete an 150-hour internship program during the summer before or during their senior year. This will be registered in a senior's class schedule as "Internship" as either a 7th period class or an 8th period class, although most students would have completed it in the summer of their senior year (it would be seen as a 9th period class). These internship projects will be displayed towards the end of the year sometime in May at the Troy Tech Fair. All students attending Troy High School will be able to visit the fair during either their period 2, period 3, or period 4 class depending on whether they are freshman, sophomores, or juniors. All parents/ guardians, incoming freshmen, siblings, etc. will be able to attend the fair in the evening at a set time.

  • Active participation with university staff and facilities in math, engineering, and biological and physical sciences.
  • Collaborative and hands-on approaches to learning
  • Assistance of business and industry to provide technical support and field-based experience for senior interns.

The Girl's Basketball Team won the state CIF Division II Title in 2003, 2005, and 2006, and has held the CIF Southern Section Division II Title for the past several years [6]. Sports Illustrated ranked the team the #4 program in the country for 2006 [7] and the Los Angeles Times ranked Troy the #5 program in all of Southern California for the second year in a row [8]. Despite the fact that Troy's badminton team was undefeated in league in the 2005-2006 school year and for many years prior, the sport has been canceled. In the 2006-2007 school year the Troy Football team went 12-1 making it the best team in Troy history. It was the best season but they unfortunately lost in the CIF semi-finals. They won League with a 5-0 record beating Fullerton, their cross-town rival, 53-7.
