Trujillo is a beautiful small town in Western Spain. It has many shops, restaurants and bars. It is home to study abroad programs from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC and the University of New Mexico. In addition to the castle, the town has several palaces that were built as a result of money that was made by Pizarro and others during the colinization of the Americas. Like many smaller towns in Spain, Trujillo has it's own bullfighting ring. There are generally only one or two fights a year, but the ring is also used for other events. Trujillo's "Plaza Mayor" (Main Plaza) is a bustling area with several cafes, restaurants, and shops. On Thursdays there is a large open-air market on one of the streets that leads from the market (the one that goes between the two churches, I can't remember the name of it!). On the same street, there is a Bar/Dance club called "La Bodia". Despite it's location in a tiny town, La Bodia is quite possibly one of the best night clubs I've ever been to. The music is so-so, but the two-story layout with a terrace in the back (with view of the castle) is incredible. The place has fish tanks for bar tops! If you're traveling through Spain and have time to stop in a small town, Trujillo is a very inviting place. It has a rich history, good restraunts, and friendly people. |
