In a desperate attempt to save the world from Majin Buu, Son Goku teaches Goten and Trunks a technique that allows them to fuse into Gotenks. He uses his fusion with Goten to battle Majin Buu several times, even attaining Super Saiyan 3.[8] However, Gotenks was not powerful enough to defeat Buu and was absorbed.[9] Trunks and Goten are rescued from Majin Buu by Goku and Vegeta, but are killed when Kid Buu destroys the Earth.
