Encyclopedia > Tullamarine

The Melbourne suburb of Tullamarine, Victoria, Australia, is a non-descript collection of recent housing estates and light industry. It is located in the Hume City Council.

Generally flat and exposed to the hot northerly winds of Melbourne's summer, its only notable feature is the nearby Melbourne Airport. The suburb has only developed since the 1970s, with the promise of cheap land, due to its location near the airport. Very few of the houses built in the suburb are seen to have any architectural merit.
