Turdus

The true thrushes are medium-sized mostly insectivorous or omnivorous birds in the genus Turdus of the thrush family Turdidae.


Most, but not all, are Old World species; several of the New World species are called Robins rather than Thrushes:

The American Robin ( Turdus migratorius) is a migratory songbird of the thrush family.
It is basically grayish in color, except for an orange patch on the chest; the similarity between this coloring and that of the smaller and unrelated European Robin ( Erithacus rubecula) led to its common name.
The American robin, Turdus migratorius, shall be the state bird.
