Büyükburç felt that the popularity of this trend would be limited until the Western song lyrics were translated into Turkish, and suggested to composer Fecri Ebcioğlu that he pen some Turkish lyrics to an English tune [4]. In 1962, the first Western popular melody with Turkish lyrics was released, İlham Gencer's "Bak Bir Varmış Bir Yokmuş" (Look Once Upon A Time) [5] and the foundation was set for the mergence of a new genre. The modern technique of musical arrangements was also attributed to this era, with Western songs arranged into more oriental sounding motifs for the Turkish ear. Music tastes were changed so much so by this mass exodus, that not only the popularity, but the very existence of Turkish pop was threatened.
Being one of the first pop albums to sell over a million copies since Turkish pop's heyday in the 1970s, it is credited for heralding the revival of Turkish pop in the early 1990s and is readily found in any Turkish pop aficionado's top 100 albums of all time.
However, Turkish pop's economical successes in the 1990s brought with it the shallow commerciality unavailable in the Turkey of the seventies.
