Tuscumbia is a town located in Miller County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 218. It is the county seat of Miller County6.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 km˛ (0.3 mi˛). 0.9 km˛ (0.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 218 people, 57 households, and 40 families residing in the town. The population density is 240.5/km˛ (617.2/mi˛). There are 72 housing units at an average density of 79.4/km˛ (203.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 95.41% White, 1.83% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 57 households out of which 29.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% are married couples living together, 14.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% are non-families. 24.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.68.


In the town the population is spread out with 15.1% under the age of 18, 20.2% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 159.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 156.9 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $19,375, and the median income for a family is $26,875. Males have a median income of $15,341 versus $16,000 for females. The per capita income for the town is $8,117. 19.3% of the population and 12.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 35.7% of those under the age of 18 and 36.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
