The Two Lone Swordsmen are BritishhouseDJ and producerAndrew Weatherall and studio engineer Keith Tenniswood. Formed in early 1996, following the dissolution of Weatherall's influential Sabres of Paradise techno act, the Swordsmen have explored a variety of styles, from electro to post punk to IDM. Originally they released material on the label Emissions Audio Output, which Weatherall ran. However, the small nature of the operation limited the duo's success. They have since signed to Warp Records, making them labelmates with acts such as Squarepusher, Autechre and Boards of Canada. The Swordsmen's latest album is 2004's From the Double Gone Chapel, which exhibits more of a rock sound than their previous work. The Fifth Mission (Return to Flightpath Estate) (1996)
A slight return to experimental electro after the downtempo breakbeat of their EP work during 1999, the second TwoLoneSwordsmen full-length for Warp also explores the minimalist side of techno and harks back to the early-'80s synth-funk Andrew Weatherall championed on his Nine O'Clock Drop mix disc for Nuphonic.
Except for a few tracks of free-form ambient wallpaper, Tiny Reminders is pretty hard hitting, at least for TwoLoneSwordsmen.
The beats are less brittle, and though the catalog of crazed effects is still in full force, they're carried along by the forceful drum programming instead of acting on their own.
