Encyclopedia > Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon is a large water park within the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida.

The park has been open since about 1986, and it is home to the world's largest outdoor wave pool. The theme of the park is that a typhoon came through and tossed ships and fishing nets, etc., all over the formerly pristine "island" that the park is supposed to be. The centerpiece of the park is "Miss Tilly," a shrimp boat lodged on the top of a manmade geyser that erupts water every ten minutes or so.
