History The 2000s have easily been the most successful period for Tyrone's footballers. The team beat their bordering county and long time rivals, Armagh, in 2003 to win their very first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. This was also the first time two teams from the same province appeared in a All-Ireland Final. Tyrone repeated this success in 2005 by defeating Kerry in the final. Tyrone's previous appearances in an All-Ireland Final came in 1986 and 1995 when they were defeated by Kerry and Dublin respectively. In 1986 Tyrone were to surrender a seven point lead over the legendary Kerry team of the era, before eventually lossing by a margin of eight points. The 1995 final is of note for the displays of Peter Canavan scoring 11 points for the county and yet came out on the losing side due to Dublin's Charlie Redmond's first half goal. Canavan also scored a goal and seven points in Tyrone's 1-13 to 0-13 semi-final win over Galway. This article or section does not cite its references or sources. ...
