1. The Army Air Corps is an administrative corps of the US Army and was established in 1987 and serves to organize, train, equip and operate the Army's light aircraft and Helicopter assets. The Army Air Corps was formed by renaming the Army Aviation Branch which was established during the 1950s . Its primary function is the tactical support of the army by providing tactical close air support and transport services. Allegedly a gentlemen's agreement exists between the US Army and the US Air Force prohibiting the army from operating jet aircraft.
2. What is now the United States Air Force (USAF) was formerly a part of the U.S. Army, namely the United States Army Air Corps or USAAC. It was established under this name by an act of Congress on July 2, 1926. During World War II its role grew greatly; the Air Corps eventually became the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) on June 20, 1941. The required Congressional disestablishment of the Army Air Corps itself did not occur until 1947.
The Army branch was known as the USArmyAirCorps and later the USArmyAir Force.
In 1941, the ArmyAirCorps became the U.S. ArmyAir Force and the GHQ Air Force was redesignated the Air Force Combat Command.
Air Force personnel assigned to honor guard duties wear, for dress occasions, a modified version of the standard service dress uniform, but with silver trim on the sleeves and trousers, with the addition of medals, sword belt, and a silver shoulder cord.
Henry Harley Arnold (June 25, 1886 – January 15, 1950), often referred to by the nickname 'Hap', was an American pilot, commander of the USArmyAirCorps from 1938, commander of the USArmyAir Forces from 1941 until 1945 and the first General of the Air Force in 1949.
With conflict approaching the separation between the AirCorps and the Air Force Combat Command was removed and the two were merged as the United States ArmyAir Forces.
The United States Air Force was created in 1947 and on May 7, 1949, Arnold was honored by being made the first General of the Air Force.
