Encyclopedia > U.S. Army Institute of Heraldry

A division of the U.S Army Human Resources Command, the Institute of Heraldry is charged with determining heraldic entitlements of all U.S. Army badges, medals, and insignia. It is not concerned with Heraldry outside this military body.

Title 18, United States Code, Section 704 and the Code of Federal Regulations (32 CFR, Part 507) permits the Institute of Heraldry to issue directives on how military insignia is displayed, the exact criteria for issuance, and how such insignia will be worn on a military uniform.

The Institute of Heraldry is under the ultimate authority of the Adjutant General Directorate of the United States Army.
