1979 election
The UK general election of October 1974 took place on October 10, 1974. It was the second of two United Kingdom general elections held that year. Prime Minister Harold Wilson, having taken power in a minority government after the February election, returned to the polls and won a tiny majority.
Generalelections are held at least every five years.
Generalelections are elections of the whole House of Commons at one time: one Member of Parliament for each constituency in the United Kingdom.
The election timetable is then halted and starts again from the beginning of the timetable 28 days after proof of death has been received by the returning officer. This new poll is not a by-election, but a delayed poll of the generalelection.
