Koïchiro Matsuura, conferred the title of UNESCOGoodwillAmbassador for the "Empowerment of Minority Children through Education and through the Preservation of their Intangible Cultural Heritage" upon Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Under her patronage and active guidance, the restoration of Phra Racha Wang Derm won the 2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award of Merit for its outstanding contribution to conservation in the region, and particularly in Thailand.
