In the United States Navy, the 3rd Fleet is the fleet responsible for naval activities in the eastern and northern Pacific Ocean. It is headquartered on USS Coronado (AGF-11).


The 3rd Fleet was initially formed on March 15, 1943 under the command of Admiral William F. Halsey, and was responsible for much of the campaigning in the Pacific theater in World War II. The fleet was put into reserve on October 7, 1945.


It was reactivated February 1, 1973 at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor as part of a Pacific Fleet reorganization. 3rd Fleet took over the duties of U.S. 1st Fleet and the Pacific Anti-Submarine Warfare Force.
