The second Norfolk (CA-137) was to be a heavy cruiser. The ship was laid down 27 December1944 at the Philadelpha Naval Shipyard, but construction was cancelled 12 August1945.
The third Norfolk (DL-1) was a destroyer leader, the first major warship built by the Navy after World War II, and in service from 1953 to 1970.

Naval Station Norfolk, in Norfolk, Virginia, is a base of the United States Navy, supporting naval forces operating in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Indian Ocean.
Norfolk responded by renaming the road, Admiral Taussig Boulevard, in honor of the retiring commander of the Naval Operating Base.
