Weightlifter Polsak first Thai female to win Olympic gold - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM (465 words)
Polsak, missing only once during six powerfully executed lifts that gradually pulled her away from a small eight-lifter field, held off Indonesia's Lisa Raema Rumbewas in the 53-kilogramme class yesterday for only the third Olympics gold medal by any Thai athlete.
Polsak, a two-time world junior silver medalist, took advantage of Deng's absence to open a lead of 10 kilogrammes over everyone but Rumbewas after the snatch, in which the bar is raised over the head in one motion.
Polsak was 12.5kg ahead of Rumbewas by the end, with a total of 222.5kg that was slightly less than the world and Olympic record total of 225kg by China's Yang Xia in 2000.
