The league started as two proposed 8-team leagues in 2006, the North American Indoor Football League and the Ultimate Indoor Football League. The leagues merged in the fall of 2006 [1]. So far, only two teams have publicly announced their entry -- as founding members of the NAIFL -- the Arkansas Stars, a team that played their inaugural season in the NIFL, and the Conroe Storm, a newly-made team from Conroe, Texas. According to the UIFL website, seven teams had committed to play, with more to come. After the merger, the NAIFL announced that its first ownership meeting would be November 11, 2006, at Disney's Wide World of Sports, where the full 16-team lineup was expected to be announced.
