Yar'Adua has been nominated the flag bearer of the ruing PDP following a largely ceremonial primary that saw dozens of more nationally known politicians stepping down and being advised to step down by both the incumbent President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Edgar J Hoover-like Head of the Nigerian Anti-Fraud agency, EFCC, Mr Nuhu Ribadu.

Yar'Adua's coronation by the PDP effectively makes him Nigeria's president elect. The combined ineffectiveness and paralysis of Nigeria's other 40 parties makes it certain that Umaru Yar'Adua will be the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come May 29, 2006.
