Unblack metal (also known as Christian black metal) is the Christian variant of black metal. It is a controversial genre, because black metal itself was developed with the intention of encouraging anti-Christian sentiment, both musically and socially. It is sometimes referred to as HUBM, or "Holy Unblack Metal". One of the first known unblack metal bands was Antestor, who released their first demo tape The Defeat of Satan in 1991 (at the time they were playing under the name "Crush Evil") and their first full-length album Martyrium in 1994. Joining the fray was Horde, who released their first album Hellig Usvart in 1994 on Nuclear Blast Records. The album caused great controversy in the black metal scene, and death threats were sent to Nuclear Blast Records headquarters demanding them to release the members' names. Horde played only a single show before disbanding, the only actual member was the former Mortification/Paramaecium drummer Jayson Sherlocke, who wore a hood during the show. Despite Horde's quick disappearance, many other bands would soon rise up to take their place. Antestor released their album Return of the Black Death in 1998 on Cacophonous Records, one of the largest black metal labels in Europe. However, after the label discovered they held Christian beliefs, they were immediately dropped. While unblack metal has not achieved much mainstream success in the music world, Christian or otherwise, some bands, including Antestor and Crimson Moonlight, have played at Cornerstone Festival, one of the largest Christian musical festivals in the world. As we've no doubt mentioned before, metallic post rock seems to be its own little cottage industry, spawning more bands that it's possible to keep up with, and causing lots of bands to suddenly shift their sound, to be either more metal (for the post rock bands), or more post rock (for the metal bands).
The first track builds and builds in intensity, only becoming truly metallic near the end, when the chiming high end guitars drift off leaving a churning downtuned riff, but even that riff is wrapped in effervescent streaks of glistening far away guitar harmonics, and strange vocal snippets, and rumbling whirring low end drones.
It's a suffocating soundscape of riffing and drone.

Anyways, "Unfl metal" is not an oxymoron, but if someone were to say "Christian fl metal", it would be an oxymoron.
Unfl metal is the antithesis of fl metal.
For the Norwegian fl metal bands like Mayhem, it was a celebration of Pagan heritage and a catharsis to their darker side.
