Undertow is Tool's first full-length album, released in 1993. Controversy was generated by the photos in the liner notes of obese nudes underwater and the band members with pins in the sides of their heads, resulting in the album being removed from most large retail chains. The spine of the CD case features a smaller picture of the obese woman from the booklet. Some versions of the album replaced the cover image with a large barcode and included a note from the band (see below right). Tool - Undertow album cover This is an album cover. ... Notes

  • Behind the CD tray is a picture of a cow trying to lick itself, which may be a tribute to the cover of the Pink Floyd album Atom Heart Mother.[citation needed]
  • Henry Rollins' spoken word piece on the album version of "Bottom" is different than the one Maynard James Keenan recites live.
  • "Disgustipated" is a hidden track that appears as track 69 on early U.S. pressings, track 30 on others, with the intervening tracks as three seconds of silence each. On European and other releases, it appears as track 10, directly following "Flood". On some pressings, it is tacked onto track 9, after "Flood" and a period of silence.
  • During the track Disgustipated one can hear what sounds like a shotgun being loaded and then fired. The cocking sound is authentic, however the actual sound of the blast is really a sledge-hammer hitting a piano.

Undertow (667 words)
This album with songs like prison sex, sober, and undertow were the combination of rock and a deep melodical sound.
This the first major studio album after the mini album 'Opiate' is the finest Tool album of the lot and I would say the finest album ever made.
Tools other albums are more slick with higher production values but this is brilliant for its lesser cost as it sounds more rough but strangely better.
