The UK generalelection of January 1910 was held from 15th January – 10th February 1910.
The election produced a hung parliament, with the Conservatives, led by Arthur Balfour, and Liberals, led by Herbert Asquith having almost equal forces.
A second election was held in December in an attempt to resolve the situation.
The UnitedKingdom and World War II Memories of World War I left Britons with an overwhelming desire to avoid another conflict, and the country played a leading role in the League of Nations and at inter-war disarmament conferences, such as those in Washington (1921-1922) and London (1930) which limited naval size.
Post-war Germany was divided into occupation zones among the USSR, the United States, the UnitedKingdom, and France, but efforts to reach agreement on a peace treaty with Germany broke down as it became clear that the USSR was converting all of eastern Europe into a Soviet sphere of influence.
In the generalelection of 1964, however, the latter was narrowly defeated by the Labour Party, headed by Harold Wilson.
