UMC (United Microelectronics Corporation) was founded in 1980, as Taiwan's first Semiconductor company. Today, as a contract manufacturing foundry, UMC is one of the world's largest producers of Integrated Circuits. They are listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the Ticker symbol of UMC, and on the Taiwan Stock Exchange as 2303. UMC has 10 manufacturing facilities world-wide, employing 10,500 people. In 2004, UMC earned ~$1billion (31.8 Billion NT$) on ~$3.7billon (117.3 Billion NT$) in Revenues.
