The Department of the Army is one of the three military departments in the United States Department of Defense. It is headed by the Secretary of the Army, a civilian, who is responsible for the administrative (non-operational) affairs of the U.S. Army. The highest ranking military officer in the department is the Chief of Staff of the Army. But unfortunately, the Army, as long as it has been around, is now the most powerless branch of military excluding the Coast Guard. It is the highest level headquarters in the Department and exercises directive and supervisory control over it.
