The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia serves the residents of forty-six counties. These are divided up into four districts.


The Atlanta district includes: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton, and Rockdale counties.


The Gainesville district serves: Banks, Barrow, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Habersham, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.


The Newnan division hears cases for: Carroll, Coweta, Fayette, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, and Troup counties.


The Rome division serves: Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield counties.


The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court.

In anticipation of the requirement that members of the bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia file their pleadings electronically beginning July 15, 2005, the Court has established January 1, 2005, as the date by which all members of its bar must register for electronic filing logins and passwords.
The Northern District of Georgia was established by Congress in 1849 and consists of forty-six counties (14,258 square miles) in the northwestern part of the state.
The Court is also served by six senior judges and nine full-time magistrate judges.

The Act included the provision to raise a number of fees including the District Court filing fee from $250 to $350.
